Mandavi killing: Preliminary report finds no security lapse, rules out conspiracy

RAIPUR: Retired Chief Justice Satish Kumar Angihotri heading the special judicial probe commission to investigate the killing of late BJP MLA from Dantewada Bhima Mandavi said in preliminary report there is no lapse in security nor there is any conspiracy angle, it was purely a naxal incident.

Interacting with media on Wednesday, he said BJP leader had not shared information of his trip with security personnel, showing laxity in ensuring security. But the detailed probe is underway. Now, nothing can be said regarding final report as several more witnesses’ statement has to record their statements.

Meanwhile, the next hearing date has been fixed on October 12, 2019. The first hearing was scheduled on Wednesday for which around 11 witnesses were called for recording their statement. As per information 5 witnesses cited their inability to appear due to last date of filing nomination papers. Three witnesses cited that they had met with road accident due to which they are unable to attend the hearing. All urged for granting next hearing date.

Notably, Mandavi, the lone BJP MLA from Dantewada, along with four others were killed while he was on a way to a public meeting in Dantewada district on April 9, 2019. His convoy was blown up by Maoists and fired upon at Shyamgiri. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had announced probe and constituted the Special Judicial Commission under retired Chief Justice Satish Kumar Agnihotri.
