Chhattisgarh: National Seminar on GANDHI AND MODERN INDIA

RAIPUR: A three day seminar was inaugurated by Bhupesh Baghel, Chief Minister, Chhattisgarh on Gandhi and Modern India on 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba. The seminar is being jointly organized by Azim Premji Foundation and Pt. Ravi Shankar Shukla University, Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
Speaking on the occasion chief minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel said that, “Mahatma Gandhi is loved and respected in all over the world. He is one of the most celebrated thought among writers and laurates. Gandhi accepted and internalized the path of Satyagrah, Ahimsa and Truth. Relevance of his thoughts and ideas can be understood with the fact that current world is struggling to cope up with the widely spread environment of fear and violence. It has become very important now to look towards Gandhi and follow the alternative way of life proposed by him.”
He also explained how current government is trying to follow the path suggested by Gandhi. He explained about the initiative of Narva, Garuwa, Ghurwa and Bari which is focused on making villages self-dependent in availability of water, cleanliness and increasing production in farms. He mentioned that how government’s initiatives have increased the purchasing power of a common man especially farmers.”
Chief Speaker for the session Professor of Delhi University Apoorvanand explained, “How how a man with a thin physic and with barely any clothes on body became an epitome of truth, Non-Violence, dissent and iron will. He also mentioned that 150 countries have shown their respect and faith in Gandhi by issuing Postal Tickets of Gandhi. He explained that one of the qualities of Gandhi was to take the responsibilities of his deeds and stand with those who are marginalized in the society.”
 A brief introduction of seminar presented by State Head of Azim Premji Foundation in which he briefly discussed the relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s Thoughts in current times, after that Vice Chancellor of Pandit Ravishankar Shukl University Professor Kesari Lal Verma welcomed all the guests and participants and highlighted the works of Mahatma Gandhi. He mentioned that how Gandhi stood by the values of Non-Violence and truth which became an example for rest of the world.
After introduction Sharad Chandra Behar, Ex Chief Secretary of Undivided Madhya Pradesh, presented his thoughts on Gandhi. He said that while discussing Gandhi it is very important to discuss the importance of Kasturba Gandhi. In the making of Gandhi, Kasturba Gandhi played a very important role. He also said that current generation should be ready to defend the voice of dissent. One cannot stand aside and claim to be a believer of democracy.
On the occasion Sarvoday Leader and renowned Gandhian Amarnath Bhai and Freedom Fighter and Gandhian Leela Tai Chitale were also present.
While remembering her experiences with Gandhi Leela Tai mentioned that how she never felt any aura of such a great leader when she was with Gandhi. She said that simplicity and inclusiveness of Gandhi created an environment of love and affection around him.
Sarvoday leader Amarnath bhai mentioned that Vinova Bhawe was inspired by Gandhi and following thoughts of Gandhi he initiated Bhoo Daan Andolan.
At the end, Registrar of Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University Professor Girish Kant Pandey gave the vote of thanks.
