RAIPUR: The Dhamtari based Women Self-Help Group is preparing unique eco-friendly ‘rakhi’ for sale using the materials, mainly bamboo and designs prepared from cow-dung.
The official communication issued states that after Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel appreciated the group for preparing the unique products, motivated the group has involved itself to come up with the eco-friendly rakhi.
It is stated that four different kinds of rakhis are being prepared in the name of ‘Aady Bandhan’. The first type is for children, rakhi made using bamboo, designs prepared from cow dung and fourth one ‘Kumakum-akshat bandhan’.These rakhis will be available in the market at a rate ranging from Rs 20 to Rs 200 per rakhi.
Dhamtari Zila Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Namrata Gandhi in a statement said under the National Rural Livelihood Mission’s ‘Bihan’ scheme, the village women were trained for preparing rakhi at village Chaati based Multi-utility Centre.
A total of 20 Women Self Help groups having 165 women members of village Chipli under Nagari block and Naari village under Kurud block, after training commenced the work for making rakhi, CEO said.
The CEO further added that till date an order of 1200 rakhis has been received by the group. The speciality of these rakhis are that for children it has been prepared using crotia embroidery threads which have been named as ‘Oj’ rakhi. The art form includes soft eraser, sharpener, key-chain, ‘Chota Bheem’, ‘Ganesha’, ‘Santa Claus’ and children.
Rakhi is also being prepared using the bamboo seeds also considering the environment friendly concept, said CEO Namrata. The rakhi using bamboo has also been prepared keeping the relations of brother-sister, sister-in-law, brother-in-law and others.
